Exports from the Dominican Export Processing Zone from January to September 2010 grew 18% in the textile industry

Dominican Republic Today reported on November 27th that Luisa Fernández, chief executive of the Dominican Export Processing Zone Committee, stated that exports from the Dominican Export Processing Zone between January and September 2010 amounted to $2.988 billion. Compared with the $2.35 billion in the same period of 2009, the growth rate was 29%. Export growth also contributed to a 10% increase in employment opportunities.

According to the Central Bank's data, export value of all industries in the export processing zone showed positive growth, with 85% for the footwear industry, 35% for the jewelry industry, 25% for the medical and pharmaceutical products, and 14% for the electronic products.

In addition, the textile industry also grew by 18%, which is the first time in eight years that it has grown. In addition, employment opportunities have increased in all processing zones in Dominica. Among them, job opportunities in the northern and Santo Domingo processing export zones have increased the most.
