How to choose a pearl ring

The quality value of the pearl ring is determined by five aspects: pearl color, gloss, shape, surface flaw and size.

colour

The color of the pearl generally becomes opaque. Representative colors are white, cream, yellow, pink, silver or black. A pearl can also have a little secondary or reflective color, which is the color that light reflects on the surface of the pearl. For example, a string of pearls may appear white, but when we look closely, there may be a pink overtone.

luster

Pearls produce a strong, deep glow that we call luster. This formation is due to the reflection of light rays on the surface of the nacre formed by many calcium carbonates. This substance is called a nacre. When you choose a pearl, think about it, the more the layer of pearls, the more radiance he can give. Comparing a 5mm freshwater artificially cultivated pearl with a 10mm Nanyang pearl, the number of nacre is obviously different. Due to the different sizes, the color of the pearls is obviously different.

shape

Pearls that are not round or asymmetrical are considered to be low-quality pearls. Okaya, Tahiti, and Nanyang tend to have round pearls, while freshwaters tend to be oval or sub-round pearls.

Surface flaw

Since the pearls are cultivated by oysters, the nacres are not always as smooth as they are adhered, and sometimes spots and bubbles appear in the formation of the nacre. The smoothest pearl on the surface is the highest quality and very popular pearl.

size

The size of a pearl ring usually depends on the type of pearl. The freshwater pearl series models range from 3 to 8 mm. The Okaya series is 6 to 9 mm, while the Nanyang and Tahiti series are 8 to 16 mm.
