On September 16th and 17th, the 22nd China International Wool Spinning Materials Transaction Information Exchange was held in Beijing, organized by the China Wool Textile Industry Association, China International Investment Co., Ltd., and Michel International Limited. The event took place from September 16th to 17th, with the theme “Charismatic Information, Dynamic Wool.†This conference aimed to enhance transparency, improve market management, and promote a more efficient and fair wool trade system both domestically and internationally.
Du Fuzhou, President of the China Textile Industry Association, sent a congratulatory message, highlighting the importance of the information exchange in driving the sustainable development of the wool textile industry. He emphasized that the conference played a key role in shaping a robust domestic and international trade framework for wool products.
The event attracted over 700 participants, including representatives from government agencies, industry leaders, and international experts. Notable attendees included Zhou Xiaoyan from the Ministry of Commerce, Xiong Bilin from the National Development and Reform Commission, Shi Zongwei from the National Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, Xu Wenying from the China Textile Industry Association, Peng Yanli from the China Wool Textile Industry Association, and Shi Hongxiang from the National Development and Investment Corporation. International guests such as Mike Jackson from the Australian Wool Detection Authority, Duane Knowles from the New Zealand Wool Testing Authority, Gustavo from Uruguay’s LANAS, and Peter Michell from Michel International Limited also participated.
In his opening speech, Shi Hongxiang highlighted the strong economic growth in China, noting that imports and exports have seen double-digit growth, signaling a positive trend for the global economy. He encouraged wool companies to seize new opportunities and work towards greater development.
Chang Junchuan, Chairman of China National Investment International Trading Co., Ltd., shared his insights on the recovery of the Chinese economy since the 2008 financial crisis. He expressed confidence in the future of the wool market, citing improving macroeconomic conditions, rising foreign trade activity, and growing market opportunities. SDIC Trading Company is committed to strengthening partnerships and upholding values of honesty, trust, and mutual benefit.
Peng Yanli discussed the four key trends in the wool textile industry: a strong domestic market, improved export performance, rapid investment recovery, and technological advancements. She explained that the theme “Charismatic Information, Dynamic Wool†reflects the industry’s efforts to meet evolving consumer demands and unlock the full potential of wool products.
Yang Xiaoxiong, General Manager of Nanjing Wool Market, provided an overview of recent wool import trends. Despite a decline in May after a record high in March, Chinese companies remained active in importing wool. However, challenges such as the importation of low-quality wool from Australia persisted.
Zhang Haisen spoke about China's free trade negotiations, emphasizing the need for balanced trade benefits between China and its partners, especially in the wool sector. He suggested learning from successful models like the Australia-US or South Korea-US free trade agreements to ensure fairer outcomes.
Mike Jackson, Duane Knowles, and Gustavo presented on the wool industries in Australia, New Zealand, and Uruguay respectively. Peter Michell from Michel International GmbH shared how the company has focused on China for over 140 years, recognizing the country’s progress in wool processing.
In addition to the main conference, side events such as the 2nd Wool High-level Forum, the China-Australia Wool Working Group meeting, and the 2010 “Qingfeng Cup†national innovative wool semi-combed technology seminar were held. These activities enriched the event, offering valuable platforms for information sharing, networking, and showcasing innovations in the wool industry.
