Hey everyone! Today’s outfit features a pair of trousers I’ve been dying to sew for ages. They’re the Liesl + Co. Hollywood Trousers, and I finally got around to making them after experimenting with a cheaper drill version as a muslin. But as soon as I finished that first pair, I knew I wanted a fancier version—this time in luxurious wool crepe. Luckily, I had just the right fabric tucked away in my stash, patiently waiting for the perfect pattern. For a touch of elegance, I paired these wool trousers with a metallic knit tank top inspired by a Guy Laroche Vogue pattern (V1399). A pair of heels completed the look, and I was ready for any fancy occasion. I didn’t make any alterations to the trousers—they fit like a dream right out of the envelope. Liesl really knows her stuff! Now, if only I’d had a tiny bit more fabric, I would’ve attempted a copy of those beautiful ready-to-wear trousers I spotted recently. The only tweaks I’d have made were switching to an invisible side zipper, ditching the waistband in favor of a facing, and adding a sash. That idea has been haunting me ever since, and now all I can think about is the gaping hole in my fabric stash where that extra wool crepe could’ve been. In the meantime, these navy wool trousers will be my go-to for dinners, theater outings, and all formal events that don’t involve barbecues or picnics. For casual gatherings, though, I’ll stick with my original drill version. Paired with a simple T-shirt and sandals, they’re surprisingly versatile and comfy.
