Egypt is known for producing high-quality cotton, but in recent times, Egypt has increased the import of cheap cotton from the Indian subcontinent.

Arab Puervila Spinning Weaving Company is a major textile factory in Egypt. The factory was affected by this development. In July 2011, the production capacity was cut by one third. In the second quarter of the current fiscal year, the company suffered a loss of 2010 million Egyptian pounds, and its revenue dropped by 35.3%.
